The Lens: Double-edged sword of censorship in Malaysia

In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who saw the Green Lantern movie be saved ... by my column!

Yes, comic book fans, I saw the debacle of the Green Lantern movie. I never thought there could be another movie as bad as Catwoman. Perhaps I should've have been surprised. Let's face it: the Lantern was always a bit of a soporific character anyway.

If you want to see a better GL origin movie, then I recommend the DCU-animated film Green Lantern: First Flight. However, more recently, a new six-story animated movie, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, has been released by DCU that sees Hal Jordan telling the tales of previous Green Lanterns to new recruit Arisia.

The voice cast is led by Nathan Fillion (TV series Castle) as Hal Jordan, Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) as Arisia, Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) as Abin Sur and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter's Lucius Malfoy) as Sinestro. Although not as enjoyable as First Flight, this release does give non-fans a lot more back-story about the GL Corps and their doctrines.

The DVD extras are few, but the Blu-Ray includes audio commentary by comic book publisher extraordinaire Dan DiDio and comic book writer Geoff Johns; and three featurettes.

The DVD is available at HMV for HK$185 and the Blu-Ray for HK$220.
