Hong Kong Social Media Week

Hong Kong Social Media Week

Hey, Otaku Zone readers! Your favourite neighbourhood Otaku will be speaking on a panel at Hong Kong Social Media Week. Yes, this is a shameless plug for myself, but this is my column and my editor spoils me rotten. I'll be sitting next to famed comic book artist Pat Lee and movie executive Lloyd Chao to discuss Gaming and the Consequences of Living in an Alternate Reality.

Lee has drawn more than 400 covers and comics for Marvel, DC and Image, working on titles such as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man.

Chao was vice-president and producer at Golden Harvest, and is credited with launching the careers of martial arts action stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

Chao and Lee have set up a company with Lee called Secret Lab Limited. They are producing a science fiction/action film and game with a major Japanese company, and two animated features with Chinese and Korean partners.

The three of us will discuss the pros and cons of gaming, and life in an online world. I don't personally believe having your social life based in virtual reality is a bad thing, and I look forward to explaining this view at the forum.

The event will be held on February 11 at 3pm on the SCAD campus, 292 Tai Po Road, Sham Shui Po. Visit socialmediaweek. org/hongkong for more info.
