If you enjoyed The Notebook and Dear John, then you'll know what sort of thing to expect from The Last Song, another Nicholas Sparks script. But if you're hoping for the drama of The Notebook, you'll be disappointed by the lack of twists to the story.

Directed by Julie Anne Robinson, the film tells the story of the rebellious Veronica "Ronnie" Miller (Miley Cyrus) who is sent to live with her father, Steve (Greg Kinnear). Veronica slowly develops a relationship with Will Blakelee (Liam Hemsworth), but more importantly her father, who soon reveals a sad secret. Before long, Veronica comes to understand the priceless bond between father and daughter.

Although there are numerous similarities between The Last Song and Sparks' previous works, the big difference is that this film is based on a father-daughter relationship, rather than the romance of his other stories.

Cyrus made her name in a cheesy kids' show where she played a regular school girl by day and pop star by night. This movie was written with her in mind - her musical talents come to the fore as Ronnie, who was a child prodigy when it came to music, and whose father is a music professor. The piece she writes and performs at the end is simply beautiful.

If you have yet to experience Sparks' works, The Last Song is a good starting point.
