Opener Pass Out features the robotic vocals of grime sensation Tinie Tempah, whose debut album Disc-Overy will be released in October. The 21-year-old British MC raps over drum 'n' bass type beats in a song which is one of the more mainstream offerings from the garage and dance hall influenced grime scene.
Of the two tracks by N-Dubz, We Dance On featuring Bodyrox is the more interesting listen. The song begins with a sample from Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel's 17th century Canon in D Major. The opening adds a mellow touch and blends nicely with the choral ending. Lead singer Tulisa's raw vocals show N-Dubz is not to be glossed over.
Brazilian-British rapper Aggro Santos' debut single Candy features vocals from former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt. They make a great pair, and the simple chorus: "Come and get you some /Come and get you some candy" is an instant hook that will have you chanting along.
Most the songs are thumping reflections of the dance moves from the film. The album hits all the right notes, raising the bar for future soundtracks.
