Star proves it's all in the voice

Beyonce made a name for herself as a solo artist with heavily produced club hits, so it's refreshing to hear her stunning voice without special effects on I Am ... Yours.

The live album and DVD were recorded during a one-off performance in Las Vegas and is divided into two CDS. The first contains mainly acoustic songs from the 'slow' half of her latest album, I Am ... Sasha Fierce. The tracks allow Beyonce to really flex her vocal muscles, and the lack of electronic add-ons prove comparisons to soul's greatest voices are justified.

The singer keeps things interesting by adding snippets of other artists' songs - her verse of Anita Baker's Sweet Love comes as no surprise, but Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know is a surprisingly effective stroke of genius.

The second disc is a stroll down memory lane, as Beyonce charts her progress in the industry. Starting with the first song she and her former band Destiny's Child performed at an audition, Michael Jackson's I Wanna Be Where You Are, through a 12-minute Destiny's Child medley to the hugely successful solo songs from her first album, all the way to ridiculously catchy, neo-feminist Single Ladies.

The show was filmed in front of a fairly small audience of only 1,500 people, so watching the DVD almost feels like you're there.
