Many students are passionate about art and design, but they tend to treat them as hobbies rather than a possible potential career. There are, after all, many misconceptions about the possibilities of finding a job with in these fields. This Young Post EdTalk is an opportunity for students to learn more about the opportunities available to them in creative careers in Hong Kong, and how they can develop such careers.

This year’s theme is “How to build your creative career”. We are proud to invite some successful person in Art & Design industry to share their experiences, thoughts and ideas about planning to start a career in Art & Design area.

Dr Edmund Lee, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Design Centre

Dr Edmund Lee is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Design Centre, the government’s strategic partner on design matters, which is dedicated to raising the city’s profile as a hub for creativity and innovation.

Dr Lee is a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. He received his PhD in biotechnology from King’s College London, and an MBA from Warwick Business School in the UK. He was awarded the HBS Club Scholarship to complete an advanced training course in non-profit management at Harvard Business School.

Prof Gianluca Cinquepalmi, Associate Chair Communication Arts, Professor of Advertising & Graphic Design, SCAD Hong Kong

Gianluca Cinquepalmi is the Founder and Creative Director of 1.618 Limited, a Hong Kong-based strategic design and branding studio. It does consulting work for companies such as Lee Kum Kee, Ducati, Fiat, Nespresso, Wynn and Infinitus, as well as the UN World Food Programme. After working for 10 years in the design and branding sector, he is now educating and training talented students, companies and institutions to help them achieve sustainable business growth. After graduating with a master’s degree in management engineering, his career has focused on developing innovation and strategic thinking within companies in order to provide sustainable, competitive advantages. His approach uses future-oriented design principles to increase an organisation’s innovation and its competitive qualities.

Ms Grace Lang, Programme Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival

Grace Lang promotes the performing arts business in China and across Asia. She has organised the Conference on the Business of Performing Arts and was responsible for bringing many artists to China for their first professional visit, including Robert Lepage, Robert Wilson and John Neumeier in the 1990s. She has guest-lectured at Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Invited by European Festivals Association (EFA), Grace Lang was a mentor at Atelier for Young Festival Managers in Singapore 2011 and Edinburgh 2014.

Mr Michael Chan, Deputy Academic Director (Design) of the Hong Kong Design Institute & Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee) 

Michael Chan founded his firm EDGE Architects and Edge Gallery, and is now the Deputy Academic Director (Design) of the HKDI. As well practising as a registered architect and being a gallery owner and educator, he is a member of The Public Architecture Concern and was with the HKIA Committee Group for Environmental and Sustainable Architecture from 2003-2007. His companies have won more than 20 awards in local and international competitions and he was first runner-up in the 25th Central Glass International Architectural Design Competition in Tokyo in 1990. He also took the special interest prize at the Mimar International Architectural Design Competition VII in London in 1992 and received an honourable mention at the Nara/Toto World Architectural Triennale in Tokyo in 1992. He was selected as one of the top ten Young Architects in Hong Kong in 1996 and in 1998.

This will be the right weblog for any individual who desires to find out about art and design. You absolutely put a new spin on a topic that's been written about for years.
