Spoil Your Folks! Lai Hoi-ching's entry for the Young Post buffet dinner competition

We asked our readers to write about what their perfect date with their parents or guardians would look like for their chance to win a buffet dinner at a five-star-hotel. Here is one of the entries, which has not been edited

Going to yum cha would be a perfect date with my parents.

'Yum cha' means drinking Chinese tea.  It's not just a tradition in Hong Kong but also a pastime in my family.  My mother loves dim sum very much while my dad likes drinking tea. Therefore, I'd like to take my parents to a nice Chinese restaurant.  My parents have been so busy lately that I haven't had any chances to talk with them. During the meal, I hope to talk about our life and share things we come across every day.

My father is quite old, and my parents usually need to spend quite a long time working to support the family.  I know they are at times under great pressure at work. I hope through yum cha, they can relax a bit. Besides, I hope that through our chat during the meal, my parents would know that I'm always there to support them.
