Leicester City's Joshua Eppiah (in blue) was the hero at the HKFC CITI Soccer Sevens final

Leicester City defeated defending champions Aston Villa 3-0 to win the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens at a blisteringly hot Hong Kong Football Club on Sunday.

It came as a pleasant surprise for many Sevens fans, who have become accustomed to seeing Villa lift the cup over the past few years.

Both teams showed they were forces to be reckoned with during the earlier group stage matches, with Leicester looking particularly dangerous after winning all five matches leading up to the final.

A brace from 18-year-old Josh Eppiah in both halves secured the comfortable win, with the Belgian also clinching personal accolades of top scorer and MVP.

Meanwhile, West Ham United defeated Cagliari Calcio to clinch the shield, while competition debutants Bayer Leverkusen returned to Germany with the plate after seeing off Wellington Phoenix.

In the masters competition, Citi All Stars - featuring football legends Frank Sinclair and Luis Boa Morte - won the Masters Cup after a last-gasp win over Wallsend Boys Club.
