B ball for a good cause: Charity tournament raises HK$14,000 for Kely Support Group
Combining good-will and sports, the basketball tournament wasn't just a chance for friendly competition, it allowed students a chance to do good
There were no losers at the Charity Basketball Tournament held at Harrow International School on December 13. Impact Sports Academy scooped top place in the men's division, while the Hustlers were the best of the mixed teams.
The event raised funds for Kely Support Group and Christian Action, and aims to help youth programmes and psychological programmes for refugees. The sweat and tears paid off handsomely as the teams raised a total of more than HK$14,000.
It may have been a fun event for charity, but the teams took all their matches very seriously. After a long day of basketball, the final match saw the Hustlers take a narrow victory over Let It Rain to win the championship.
It was a great day for sport, for charity, and for making new friends. This competition is not just about trophies and medals. As Jessica Yuen, the organiser of the tournament, said: "It's all about being inclusive and having fun, while doing it for a good cause."
