Stateside study: why heading to the US was a smart option for one student

At 18, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. It was a big question - one I wasn't sure I could explore at a Hong Kong university, so I decided to go to the US. When Hong Kong degrees changed from three to four years, students were required to study courses outside their major.

I knew I wanted to be in a classroom where non-majors and majors alike were given equal "status", but I received uninspiring responses from current students when asked how they viewed the lessons outside their discipline.

So I chose to go to a liberal arts college in America to try a different kind of education system - but not because I didn't like Hong Kong's.
