A better world

A better world

In the year 2000, world leaders announced a series of Millennium Development Goals. These were targets to help improve the lives of the underprivileged.

With these targets set to expire next year, this is a good time to look back to see how well we've done.

We have done well in halving the number of people living in extreme poverty and lacking access to clean water. But we are still a long way off giving every child on the planet primary-level education.

In Hong Kong, we are not vocal enough about the importance of international development. It seems a long way from our own lives.

We know the cliché that we, the young, are the future. When the next targets expire in 2030, we need to have created a better world for everyone.
