Young Post scored tickets for Katy Perry's May 2 show at the Venetian Macau. In keeping with the pop powerhouse's colourful personality, we held an art scavenger hunt on Instagram to promote all the art that is actually in Hong Kong. The winner of the competition will receive three tickets plus round-trip ferry tickets.
We received a wide range of entries, and after some intense debates among the judges, we were finally able to choose a winner. Sadly there could only be one winner, but we still want to celebrate, in no particular order, the efforts of some of the other entrants.
Our second honourable mention goes to @avena_dragmeoutalive who did all five of the prompts! Excellent job!
"A work of art that is both flat and round at the same time" Artist: Ekrem Yakindag Artwork name: Impressions Year: 2014 Where: Art Basel Description: A symmetrically round artwork made up of only oil acrylic. I thought this was actually a print on canvas but it was apparently handmade. The structure is circular and flat which is why I think it fits the missing piece of the clues. #ypwhatisart #art #circle #round
"A piece that looks simple at first, but becomes more complicated the closer you look." Artist: Hendrik Kraven Artwork name: Argosy aus Agony Year: 1997 Where: Art Basel Description: I actually almost just passed this artwork because it looked all black, then I saw a little discolourations below and I finally saw it, it was a ship. The ship was releasing all these chemicals and pollutants that created the black smog that we almost couldn't see. It shows that humans do not realise what we're doing to the earth and it's all just blinding to us. Which is why I think this is a piece that is simple at first but deeper once you get closer. #ypwhatisart #art #black #dark #deep #pollution #earth
"An artwork that is lonely." Artist: Tomoko Kashiki Artwork name: I was once full of Bird's feather Year: 2014 Where: Art Basel Description: Loneliness doesn't exactly mean being separated from people, it also means to actually lose yourself and become alone as you lose who you once were. Just like this artwork, the boy misses his old self, he used to be full of feathers that covered and comforted him. Now what's left? Nothing. He feels alone now. Which is why I think this artwork is lonely. #ypwhatisart #lonely #hurt #feathers #art
"An abstract painting that is happy and joyful" Artist: Izumi Kato Artwork name: Untitled Year: 2011 Where: Art Basel Description: From this surrealism painting, I see happiness and mostly goofiness, as how the character is naked with it's breasts and the facial features is just too funny. It's also sitting on top of what looks like a volcano waiting to erupt. The creature looks quite unusual and funny and there's nothing happier and more joyful than being unique. Although, it doesn't show happiness and joyfulness to most people, it sure did bring a lot of laugh to me and my friends. #ypwhatisart #art #katyperry #funny #fun #happy #hopeiwin
"A sculpture that is both strong and peaceful at the same time" Artist: Sam Jinks Artwork name: Standing Pieta Year: 2014 Where: Art Basel Description: This artwork was very popular at the Art Basel as it draws people in and leaves a strong impression. Not to mention the size of the sculpture, it was life-size! The standing man had a face of relief and peacefulness while helping the injured man up, this showed both a strong image of an old man's strength and his peacefulness. #ypwhatisart #sculpture #cool #real #humans #humanity #art #katyperry
