Hong Kong Rugby Sevens 2018 Competition entry by Carlen Adam Sikora

We asked our readers about their favourite sports star and most amazing sporting moment and here is one of the entries. It has not been edited

My favourite sports star is Roger Federer, his gentlemanly behaviour makes him a true role model for tennis. His control over the court is unmatched; his elegant style is truly a wonder to watch, he is still dominant on the court at 36. Whenever Roger picks up a racket the world watches while holding their breath. He not only is a great tennis player, but also a generous donator; he has his own charity that provides education for children across Africa.

He is definitely one of the greatest athletes of all time!

My favourite sporting moment is his recent win at the Australian open, which marked his 20th Grand Slam tournament. It was 38°C on the day of the final, a scorcher. In an electric 5 set final against Marin Cilic the pair had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Federer had won the first set 6-2, however the fire wasn’t out with Cilic’s fighting back and winning the second set in a tiebreak 6-7(5) and winning the fourth set 3-6. The pressure was on, the spectators held their breath as every ball flew. Rodger however showed that he was above the pressure taking advantage of Cilic’s double faults and taking the final set 6-1, securing his victory.

Rodger was obviously emotional when giving his speech, breaking down into tears with happiness. His sincere appraisal to Cilic showed his true sportsmanship and his love for the game. His passion and humility has inspired me to love the sport.

This final just shows once again how Rodger is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and just another reason why he is my favourite sports star.
