Letters from the dorm: I can't wait for Spring Break 2016!

Sorry for being such a downer the last time you heard from me. After all, I was just about to take my finals. The thought of Spring Break was one of the only things keeping me (relatively) sane, and it turned out to be AMAZING.

It's already the third week of Spring Quarter, and I'm still bummed Spring Break's over. Nine glorious days of sun, not having a set schedule, eating everything in sight, and having fun with the bae and two friends.

We spent nine days in California - four in sunny Los Angeles, two in Disneyland and two in San Francisco. Spring Break was such a blur. There's a reason everyone says time flies when you're having fun.

Awwwwww! Look at little Candace! Photo: Candace Kwan/SCMP

It was my first visit to LA (going to Disneyland at the age of seven does not count), and I did a lot of sightseeing: I went to my first NBA game (totally unlike me, but it was actually really fun), ate at Koreatown for the first time (late-night KBBQ is the best), ordered food off In-N-Out's secret menu, and took pictures of the Hollywood sign at Griffith Observatory.

Eating at Kogi BBQ Taco Truck "ruined" my life, in a good way. Korean and Mexican food had a beautiful, beautiful baby - SHORT RIB TACOS! Enough said. I fell in love, and I hate myself for eating there because I don't know what to do with my life anymore. I'm counting down the days until I have time to go to LA again.

One of the highlights of my trip was taking a picture with Flik, the main character from A Bug's Life. My mum and I took pictures with him 14 years ago, and I made a point of trying to find him to recreate the photo. It took a while to track him down, but being able to see him again and actually look him in the eye was worth it.

Work is starting to pile up, but Spring Break gave me a taste of freedom that will surely keep me motivated. See you in a few months, Hong Kong!
