It should be illegal to purchase firework in Hong Kong, because this is a very crowded city. Plus, fireworks release harmful gases that are not environmentally-friendly, and this could put people’s lives in danger.

The explosive chemicals are also dangerous, as we have seen from many accidents on the mainland. This is exactly why fireworks are is prohibited in a many countries.

Ady Lam, 11, Island School

It should not be legal to buy fireworks in Hong Kong. Fireworks are incredibly dangerous, and should only be used by people who know what they’re doing, not guys who think that they are up for a challenge! Simply put, a lot of people do not know how to handle fireworks correctly and it could be deadly if they are used incorrectly.

Eunice Yung Po-yiu, 15, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School

People should not be allowed to buy fireworks because they are too dangerous, even though they are great for celebrating big events. Young people could easily be hurt playing with, and if everyone is allowed to use fireworks, it will be annoying for others.

Michael Kwok Pui-hin, 15, Law Ting Pong Secondary School

I don’t think it should be legal to buy fireworks in Hong Kong, because on the mainland there have been lots of accidents from playing with them. They have caused huge fires and explosions, and it’s really dangerous for people who don’t know how to use them properly.

It would be nice to have fireworks legalised in Hong Kong. Every year, many of my cousins in India use fireworks to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Instead of just looking at photos of their celebrations, it would d be great to celebrate the festival with our own fireworks in Hong Kong.
