ROYP: From the words of Gandhi to Evangelical Christians, here's what moved our readers forward in tough times

Each week, we’ll be asking some Young Post readers to share a little bit about themselves and a quote that inspires them

The respected and revered Mahatma Gandhi.

Hi everyone. Like most Young Post readers,  I have a lot of pressure at secondary school but I always take time out to do things that matter to me.

Most inspiring quote:

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi, civil rights leader

Even though there’s a lot of homework, I commit time to volunteer work. For me, doing service is not just about helping other people, it’s also about helping myself grow.

Hello readers! I call myself a serendipitous freak because I just can’t seem to blend in with my peers. I’ve been to 10 different schools, but there was never a moment when I felt like I was the same as everyone else. Over time, I’ve learned that it’s OK to be different, and it’s OK to pursue my unrealistic dreams – as long as I’m staying true to myself and doing what I’m passionate about.

Most inspiring quote:

“Don’t judge my path if you haven’t walked my journey.” - Unknown

A lot of my Weibo followers think I must be the “luckiest girl in the world” because I grew up onstage and have performed with or interviewed many celebrities. I would like them to know that’s simply an artificial, one-dimensional world they are looking at. I, too, have my own struggles in life and challenges I need to overcome.

Hiya! The motivating question that I follow is a variation on the 1990s phrase that Evangelical Christianity followers used. It’s similarly devout, just a lot less religious. I always ask myself what I want to achieve.

Most inspiring quote:

"What would __ want you to do?" - Evangelical Christians

The followers liked to use Jesus, but I’ll fill in the blanks with a beloved role model, much-idolised celebrity or favourite character of mine. This quote pushes me forward in many situations.

Hey guys! I’m going to be in secondary school soon, and there’s this big rush of emotions – I’m constantly wondering whether I’ll be doing OK in secondary, and will it be a good experience or a bad one?

Most inspiring quote:

“Life isn’t always pretty, but sometimes it’s exceptionally beautiful.” - Anonymous

Sometimes, even though bad things may happen, I know that better things will happen too.
