Arabella Ng, Hong Kong’s only athlete at the Winter Olympics in South Korea, said there is “definitely a little bit of pressure” representing the city.
The 16-year-old, who attends a ski academy in the US state of Vermont, said: “I see these Games as a huge opportunity and learning experience for the future. I’m still very young and will be one of the youngest racers in Pyeongchang, so I don’t really have any big expectations. But there’s definitely a little bit of pressure as I want to do my best for Hong Kong.”
Arabella will become the first athlete from Hong Kong to compete in Alpine skiing at the Winter Games. Each of the city’s past Winter Games athletes took part in short-track speedskating events. The Winter Games will kick off tonight with the opening ceremony at 7pm (Hong Kong time).
