Sixteen-year-old South Island School students Adrian Seto and Ethan Wong have broken the Guinness World Record for the most basketball passes in a minute by a pair.

The record attempt took place on August 18 at the South Island School Sports Hall, where Ethan and Adrian made 62 successful passes between each other in one minute. The record was checked and confirmed by Guinness World Records officials on September 20.

Adrian said he felt good when he was sent the email from Guinness World Records, as it felt like all the time and effort they had put into breaking the record had paid off.

Both Adrian and Ethan are basketball players, which is why they chose to break a basketball-related record. “We both share an interest in basketball,” said Adrian. “We thought it would be appropriate and suitable to do this.”

“We felt fairly confident that we would be able to break the record. On the whole, we practised [trying to break the record] twice before the official attempt,” Adrian added.

To confirm they had broken the record, the boys had to submit many videos of the attempt, as well as lots of witness statements.

While the idea of breaking more world records sounds interesting, the boys do not have any plans to do that: “We want to focus much of our time on studying and school work,” said Adrian.
