The new local website hkd50.com allows Hongkongers to offer their products and services to the world for - you guessed it - HK$50. And it turns out you can get a lot of things done, from product design to tax assistance to translation services.

We asked a few of our junior reporters what they can offer for HK$50 a pop

Veronica Lin, Shenzhen College of International Education

Veronica's skill to offer
Music has been in my blood ever since I was a toddler, (Veronica is a singer) and now it's become more than just a hobby - in the past couple of years it's become an authentic part of my life. As I grew older, I also picked up song-writing, and I wrote my first song at the age of 11 after a Taylor Swift concert.

To earn HK$50, I'd love to write songs for anyone who's interested in what I have to offer, and I'd try my very best to get it tailored to all of your needs! As a sample, here's a song I wrote for Young Post:

The gift we possess
What's the life I'm living
if I fail to see
the inspirations if anything
they come for free

So let's get on
get on a ride of a lifetime
where everything could be
observed in real time

We don't need
don't need no magnifying glass
to notice the beauty
before they all pass

Away into darkness
as long as we coalesce
the freedom of press
is what we possess

What Veronica got for HK$50

The variety of services is quite impressive and very attractive, though I ended up being upset with both the platform and the service of my choice, which was having user named LascoWan remix one of my songs.

Communication was a great barrier between myself and the service provider – contacting them was extremely problematic and inconvenient, as I was not allowed to share my email address via the instant-messaging feature the website offers. This made it impossible to transfer any sort of files.

I asked Lasco Wan to remix a song I wrote called My Path. I appreciated the fact that he finished the MIDI for my song in just seven days, but the quality certainly isn’t there yet.  Also, Lasco was hesitant to provide his service for just HK$50 – even though he was the one who posted it on the website to begin with!

However, I do see a great potential in this website. But the platform needs work before consumers can be satisfied with the results of a service, and the service providers can benefit from this unique way of trading their special talents and skills.

If the managers of this website could just loosen their tight regulations, perhaps hkd50.com could be turned into more of a “free market”, which would lead to a definite increase in both its efficiency and utility.

Catherine's skill to offer
If I had to market my own skill for HK$50, I would make sure it involved something I like doing. That way, I would enjoy the work while earning money.

I'm quite a health nut, and I enjoy healthy eating and exercise. My service would be to provide a five-day exercise and meal plan with additional Whatsapp motivation and advice.

After discussing the customer's current health and fitness levels, I would design a suitable exercise and meal plan. It would include flexible recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a daily schedule for the type and duration of exercise. For instance, on Monday: jog for 30 minutes, at a speed of at least 9kph.

For my Whatsapp motivation, I would send a message every morning that would go something like: "Good morning! Don't forget to go jogging for 30 minutes in the afternoon today!" And if I'm feeling particularly inspirational, I would add an extra "You got this! Believe in yourself!"

Most similar online services for exercise are ridiculously expensive. HK$50 is a very reasonable price for this package considering the amount of effort I would put into it (hey - it's only HK$10 a day!).

What she got for HK$50

I picked a service that promised to “Introduce a method of earning HK$500 a day”. Admittedly, it sounds a bit suspicious (okay, very suspicious) but I was very curious to see how the vendor would explain the method and what the method actually was – who wouldn’t want to earn HK$500 a day?

In addition, I didn’t want a basic arts-and-crafts service like bracelet-making or card design that I could easily do myself. I wanted something that I couldn't do by myself, and that was instant and easy to access. I didn't want to wait three weeks for some package to arrive. Above all I wanted something that could potentially be useful in the future. This service fits the bill fairly well!

I was quite satisfied with the entire process of the transaction and the rendering of the service. After making an online payment, the introduction was available in my inbox the next day. The website had a built in chat function that allowed me to communicate directly with the vendor. I didn’t really have any questions, so I let him do the explaining. His method for earning HK$500 a day was to sell T-shirts using his online platform, and gather support for your designs by promoting them on social media.

He simply posted a couple of chat messages with a quick description. Once he has finished explaining it, there was a notice that explained the service had been ‘successfully rendered’. Though it was most likely a simple way of earning money for him – all he did was copy and paste his instructions – I was satisfied with the idea he proposed.

I also asked him extra questions about how I would advertise my T-shirt selling methods, and he recommended creating my own Facebook page. I will definitely be using this method to try to earn money online!

Venus' skill to offer
It seems people just can't stay away from their smartphones nowadays. And most of us are very willing to adorn our "smartphone babies" with cute accessories, and the most important accessory of all is the phone case.

Since others always see our phones, a tailor-made phone case would be the perfect way to show off your personality and style.

Also, since so many gadget accessories look alike, why not order a unique phone case for just HK$50?

I made a Here's Wally Phone Case, inspired by my beloved children's book, Where's Wally? An illustration based book in which you look for Wally in different scenrarios where there are hundreds of people.

Just HK$50 for happiness and phone protection is definitely a fantastic purchase!

What she got for HK$50

There are many attractive services you may want to try, like HK$50 for a pair of woollen baby shoes and HK$50 for help editing your video. The aim of this website is really creative, and provides people a way to do their own business. There are also some strange but hilarious services.

I had HK$50 to spend on any service on the website, but failed to spend the money. Maybe it’s because the website is not popular yet, so the users are not necessarily active. But several users I reached out to didn’t return my messages, and that’s a disappointment.
