Alice Ip, Executive Director of Sino Group, presents the grand prize award to Tina KoTop student journalists were honoured on Saturday at the Sino Junior Reporter Programme 2014 Presentation Ceremony at Skyline Tower in Kowloon Bay.
The programme is a collaboration between South China Morning Post and Sino Group to promote students' writing skills and green ideas.
Chosen from more than 600 applicants, 30 secondary school students took part in a half-day workshop with journalists from Young Post and representatives from Sino Group.
The students also visited two of the biggest Sino Group developments - Skyline Tower at Kowloon Bay and Olympian City - to learn about the group's green initiatives. After the visits, the participants reported on their experiences.
Their photos and articles were judged, and the top five performers were awarded cash prizes and stays in hotels. Grand champion Tina Ko Lok-sun won a stay at The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore and HK$5,000.
The Form Four student from Ying Wa Girls' School was impressed by Sino Group's effort to make Hong Kong a green city.
"It is important for business to care about the community," she says. "From the visits to two Sino developments, I was able to see the group has done many things to make the city green."
Tina, who hopes to be a journalist, said the workshop had been a fruitful experience for her, saying: "I learned interview skills, critical thinking skills, and was able to brush up on my English."
Other awardees include Chloe Chan Cheuk-nam from St. Mary's Canossian College, Akina Wong from S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School, Angela Leung Ho-chun from Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School and Colby Li Yang-li CNEC Lee I Yao Memorial Secondary School all of which are studying Form Four.
Top management of both companies was present to witness the achievement of the students. Alice Ip (Executive Director, Sino Group), Elsie Cheung (Chief Operating Officer, South China Morning Post), Alex Ho (General Manager, Education, Recruitment, Circulation and Syndication Business, South China Morning Post) and Kwan Chi-wah (Associate Director, Sino Property Services) were invited to give out prizes to the winners.
