With crazy costumes, haunted houses, and of course, free candy, what's not to love about October 31? Here are some of the spookiest fun you can have on All Hallow's Eve in Hong Kong.
The Mickey & Friends Finale closes out the "Disney Paint the Night" parade.No need to be afraid of the dark
Hong Kong Disneyland is presenting "Disney Paint the Night" and "Disney Haunted Halloween" this month.
"Paint the Night" is a new night parade that is a permanent feature of the theme park, like its daily parade.
It is the first-ever completely LED parade created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. The parade features seven floats, each featuring a Disney or Pixar theme.
Each of the colourful LED floats is accompanied by performers related to the float's story, such as illuminated "Court Couples" with the Beauty and the Beast float. There's also the Cars float, which includes Mack, in the form of a huge, 16.5-metre-long, 5.5-metre-high float, for the first time in any Disneyland in the world.
The parade lasts around 40 minutes, enough to get into each of the seven different stories, and feel all cheery and Disney.
"Disney Haunted Halloween" will run Fridays and weekends this month, and the park will extend its opening hours until 11pm.
The highlight of this year's Hong Kong Disneyland Halloween theme is Horrors of the Amazon, a theatre performance in the form of a show-and-tell hosted by "Jonas Brisbane", a jungle cruise skipper played by local actor Power Chan Kwok-pong. It marks the first time you can see a local celebrity performing at a Hong Kong Disneyland show.
Hong Kong Disneyland won't offer many scares, but then again, nobody goes to Disneyland for that. It does, however, offer that classic Disney atmosphere with "Disney Paint the Night". The Halloween season can be dark and gloomy, but the parade's 740,000 individual LED lights will surely add some colour to it.
From the ocean to your nightmare
Ocean Park's annual Halloween Fest will be happening most days until the end of the month.
It features seven haunted houses, two of which are transforming attractions, the first of its kind in the industry, which means the same haunted house offers different kinds of experiences.
One of them is "Forest of Legends", a mysterious Chinese fairyland in the day time that transforms into "Forest of Doom", a haunted ancient tomb, at night.
The other transforming attraction is "Phantom Studios", a selfie studio in the daytime that becomes "Horror-wood Studios" at night. It will be the world's first haunted house where you can rent a selfie video camera to watch your own reactions.
Another highlight is "Rigor Mortis Live presented by Yahoo! Hong Kong". It's a collaboration with local director Juno Mak that recreates scenes from his horror film Rigor Mortis, which won the Best Visual Effects at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In addition to scenes from the film, the attraction features more than 30 performers, and music from the movie.
Ocean Park's Halloween Fests are usually very scary, and this year's new haunted houses keep that tradition going.
But unlike its usual Halloween Fests, it also has something for the faint-hearted, like its daytime haunted houses and "Doraemon Halloween Party", Asia's first Doraemon-themed Halloween attraction. That will feature some of Doraemon's favourite gadgets like the "Time Machine" and "Anywhere Door".
Halloween Fest runs during the theme park's opening hours, from 10am to 11pm, on most days this month, though each Halloween attraction has its own schedule.
