A three-year-old has become the first child in Hong Kong to die of flu. Doctors say the girl’s case was bad when she was admitted to hospital on January 6. She had a fever, cough, runny nose, and sore throat. She was sent to the intensive care unit on January 7. She died on Monday, around 6.30am.

The girl had been infected with influenza B. There are many different kinds of flu.

As of Sunday, there were 44 bad cases of flu among adults this year, with 27 of those dying.

A 15-year-old girl was added to the list of bad cases for children on Monday. She is in a serious condition in Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung.

There has been an outbreak of flu at St Francis of Assisi’s English Primary School in Sham Shui Po, with 28 students from affected.

The best way for people to avoid getting flu is to wash their hands as often as they can, using soap.
