Regina Ip to drop out of race for Hong Kong's Chief Executive?
CE hopeful Regina Ip's race for the city's top post has ended for the moment.If Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee fails to secure the required minimum of 150 nominations from the 1,194-strong Election Committee by the 5pm deadline today, she will drop out of the race to be Hong Kong's next chief executive.
Candidates must formally submit their nominations to the Registration and Electoral Office for their candidacy in the race to be considered valid.
Former chief secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor submitted 579 nomiations - just 22 short of the number of votes required to win - while former finance minister John Tsang Chun-wah submitted 160 votes, and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing submitted 181.
Successful candidates have to secure 601 votes or more in the official election on March 26 to win the race to be chief executive.
