There are tonnes of aptitude tests out there to help you figure out how your brain works. One of the most popular is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which divides people into 16 personality types.

The problem with these tests is that they take forever to complete, and who has time for that?

"All you need to know is whether you're a doer or a thinker," says Professor Jok Son-yu, from Suwon, Korea, a leading expert on personality development and its effects on our lives.

"Doers tend to get ahead in life," says Jok, "whereas thinkers often struggle with over-analysing, which keeps them from action and, thus, their goals."

However, other experts like Dr Fu Ni, a noted psychologist from Shanghai, points out that doers are prone to rash decisions, and can actually benefit from being more like thinkers.

Not sure which you are? There's an easy way to find out.

The Vortex Decipher was created by a group of neuroscientists and psychologists led by Professor Don B. Leev of the University of Nottingrell, 50km north of the city of Nottingham in Britain.

"Many students have trouble coping with school because they don't know what type of person they are yet," says Leev. "What the Vortex Decipher does is help them realise whether they're a doer or a thinker. What's unique about it is that it only takes a few seconds of their time."

All you have to do is look at the Vortex Decipher (above). If you see the pattern in green and yellow, it means you're a doer, but if all you see is brown and blue, then you're likely more of a thinker.

One thing Leev and Fu would agree on is that both personality types would benefit from being a little more like the other. Luckily, the Vortex Decipher is able to help you achieve that.

"By staring at the centre of the image, the four orbs at each of the corners will appear to be spinning," Leev says. "By focusing on the centre and meditating, you can train your mind to see which two colours you desire. By training yourself to see both sets of colours, you'll possess the qualities of both a doer and a thinker."

Keep in mind, though, that this isn't an overnight thing. It takes practice and continuous dedication.

Perhaps most interestingly, while creating the Vortex Decipher, Leev discovered a very small group of people who he's dubbed the Thoughtful Doers.

"It's actually only about 1 per cent of all humans," he says. "They are born the perfect balance of a doer and a thinker. Many successful world leaders and entrepreneurs are Thoughtful Doers."

This small group doesn't see the Vortex Decipher in green and yellow or brown and blue. They see a combination of red and purple, and the hidden image of a roaring lion within the complex design.

Leev explains that only certain people with a particular colour blindness sees the Vortex Decipher with the colours reversed, which then reveals the lion.

"The same DNA mutation that causes this colour blindness also boosts both their doer's and thinker's traits, so that they're perfectly balanced."

Leev says it's like how a DNA mutation in white cats with blue eyes causes 65 to 85 per cent of them to be deaf.

"Whether you're a thinker or a doer doesn't influence your chances of success or failure," says Fu. "But if you want to become more like your opposite trait, you can. Just keep trying, and believe it. If you believe it, it's real."
