Top 10: if you could time travel, when/where would you go?
We asked our readers for their ideal time travel destinations, and here are some of our favourite answers!
A brighter tomorrow
I would go to the future and see the technology. Maybe I’d find a homework-finishing machine and I could live like Doraemon! Maybe we would fly through the sky and live under the sea. That would be amazing!

Political tension and inspiration
As a history student, I would choose to time travel to the Cold War period. Perhaps I could see why there was so much tension between capitalist and communist countries. I would also like to know how Winston Churchill became such a great and inspiring leader. He once said: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” This has inspired me a lot, and made me reflect on my daily actions.

Foodie of the future
A restaurant in the 23rd century, of course! That’s because I would be served by super-smart robots, with their hi-tech operating systems. After receiving my orders, the food would appear on the table automatically, then I’d enjoy it!

Cha-ching in the Qing
I would like to go back to the Qing Dynasty, because I want to see what Hong Kong looked like back then. I also want to try to buy things with antique coins.
Amy Ng, PLK Mrs Ma Kam Ming-Cheung Fook Sien College
Hangin’ out with Leonardo
The Renaissance period, which featured a lot of great inventions in science, art, philosophy and culture. Leonardo Da Vinci is a good example. Why did the Renaissance inspire so many great things?
Selina Cheng Hei-lam, 13, Tak Nga Secondary School
Swimming through history
I would go back to 1953, so I could participate in the Hong Kong Cross Harbour Race. This is because that was the last year the race ended at Queen’s Pier. I would like to have a souvenir in memory of the pier which was demolished in 2007.

Simpler times
How I would love to go back to my primary school life. I am in Form Five now, and I have so many decisions to make – and the DSE is coming soon. I am stressed, and I miss my happy, innocent primary school days when I had so many friends and life was full of fun. I wish I could return to those days and never grow up.

Nothing wrong with Tang
The Tang Dynasty, the most prosperous time in Chinese history. During those days, people wore fashionable, glamorous clothes. There was also equality between boys and girls. If I had the chance, I would like to meet Empress Wu Zetian so I could tell her how much I admire her.
Man Tin-yan, 15, Worker’s Children Secondary School
The island of no return
I’d time travel back to Greece, around 400 BC. There, I’d meet Plato, who told a story about a rich and powerful island called Atlantis that suddenly disappeared. It has sparked countless movies and books, and it’s a mystery that has not been solved yet. And if Atlantis was real, then what I’d like to do is go on an adventure from which I might never return!

A bouncing baby Earth
I am a geography student, so I would like to travel back to the time when our planet was “born”. I am really curious and eager to learn about the formation of Earth, with its wonderful landscapes, continents, and oceans. How did the first drop of water come about? Wouldn’t it be fun to solve all those mysteries?
