They should call it AWAYwork

The worst place to do your homework is your home. It may sound counter-intuitive, but that’s the place with the most distractions: your phone, snack or favourite book can easily steal your attention. You are much better off somewhere else.

Not the place to feed your brain

I’d say in a restaurant, because it is always noisy and the waiters will be mad at you for taking up a table while not eating.

It’s called HOMEwork for a reason

Teacher: Nihao!

Me: Everybody, hide me!

*Teacher walks over*

Teacher: Is that my homework you’re doing?

Me: Nooo ... umm ... I mean, kinda ...

*Teacher sits down RIGHT next to me and starts blabbering about how little homework she gives*

Use stationery when you’re stationary

Moving vehicles. No matter how beautiful your calligraphy is, whenever you are writing in a car or on the bus, your handwriting suddenly starts to look like the tornado from the Wizard of Oz! And not to mention, all that extra movement causes a jam in your brain. Doing homework under those circumstances is unbearable.

Unless it’s a crappy assignment

Where else, than the stinky, messy, humid toilet? Without a doubt the worst place to finish your homework.

A flood of emotions

In the bathtub, after curfew, and accidentally turning on the tap. It’s been a year, and the memory is still etched indelibly into my mind.

Lunchtime crunch time

DO NOT do your homework in the cafeteria. How can you focus in a room with screaming kids and clattering utensils? Besides, you risk getting ketchup on your maths homework!

Studying the inside of your eyelids

Sometimes being lazy, you might do your homework in bed. Although it’s the most comfortable place it is not recommended, as you might fall asleep while you are working.

‘Music’ doesn’t always help

I simply hate doing homework at home! Yeah, I know, it is the comfiest place in the world to some, but it isn’t that great when your younger sister is shouting/singing songs right next to your ear, and then acting all cute and innocent to Mum after you complain. And even worse, the next day, she’ll annoy my head off to get back at me for telling on her. This always messes my concentration on my maths or liberal studies assignments. Even now, she’s singing her all-time favourite, Let it Go! More like shut it up!

Eugenia Fong King-hin, 12, Sacred Heart Canossian College

All work? No playground.

The playground is the worst place to do your homework because there are lots of people playing there. With basketball and other activities going on, it’s too noisy to do homework.
