What’s the best cure for post-holiday blues?

The only bad thing about holidays is that going back to school and regular life afterwards can be pretty depressing, so we asked our readers for their best cure for the post-holiday blues, and here are our favourite responses

Read your blues away

The best cure is to read leisurely (of course not textbooks!) to allow myself to forget about the past and focus on the present. Thinking too much about the wonderful times I had in the past would only make me more depressed and stressed our. I have to move on.

Make a photo-filled diary about the holiday! That would make sure the memories I made won’t be forgotten.

I had to hand in most of my assignments just a few days after the holidays, so I had very little time to relax anyway. I usually visit decent restaurants and cafes in Hong Kong in search of delicious food. This can help relieve my stress and give me more energy.

Look on the bright side

Complaining about post-holiday blues will actually make things worse. You’ll just end up constantly thinking about the wonderful time you had and become extremely sad.

The best cure is to remember that Easter will be coming soon, and summer holidays are just a few months away.

I also distract myself by hanging out with my friends and talking about our favourite celebrities or YouTubers. Also, a few large scoops of ice cream along the way won’t do you any harm! :)

A moment of silence

Light a lavender candle, close your eyes, make a fist and breathe in/breathe out until you’re more relaxed. Think of the good things you did during the holidays and look forward to having a more exciting time during Easter.

Lose yourself in work

Make yourself VERY busy. For example, study and work out a lot. Whatever you do, make sure you’re really tired at the end of the day, so you can have a good night’s sleep. Wake up refreshed and repeat the process. A few days later, you should be all smiles and ready to lead a “normal” life.

Reunite with friends

Be happy that you get to see your best friend again and have lunch together. Then talk about what you did during the holidays and simply forget about it. You’ll feel as good as new.

Natural Cure

Immersing myself in nature is a very effective way to soothe my nerves and refresh my mind so that I can carry on! Or, if the weather is bad, I will listen to classical music and drink fruit smoothies to trade the blues for a healthy body and an energised mind!

Getting all the wonderful gifts my friends buy me on their holidays! When you’re staying in Hong Kong, the only motivation you have is to wait for your friends to get back and bring cool souvenirs from the magnificent cities they travel to ... and then imagine you leaving the country and getting them beautiful gifts in return!

Consider the alternative

We only have post-holiday blues because we have holidays, so the cure for the blues is simple. Just call the education bureau to cancel all the holidays. Would you rather have post-holiday blues or blues due to no holiday? Now that I think about it, I don’t mind the post-holiday blues anymore.
