Dear Alex,

My sister is pregnant with her first baby and we are super excited! But I've been doing a lot of reading and feel scared for her. So much can go wrong in a pregnancy. She is totally relaxed about it all and does a lot of exercise and stuff, plus she is still very busy working as a lawyer. Isn't she taking a huge risk? How do I tell her?

Aunt-in-waiting

Dear Aunt-in-waiting,

What a caring sibling you are! Your sister is very lucky to have you - and your little niece or nephew will be, too. Women are very strong. It's true that "taking it easy" and resting are important in the final stages of pregnancy. But a healthy woman with no known medical conditions can work and exercise throughout her pregnancy.

Remember that your sister is taking regular medical check-ups. There are also laws protecting working pregnant mothers.

Find out what you can do to help - but don't scare her with negative pregnancy stories.

Email your problems to yp@scmp.com, and watch for Alex's answers. And don't worry, you can remain anonymous.
