Superhot is Super. Hot. [Review]

Superhot is Super. Hot. [Review]

You are outnumbered and unarmed in a world where time moves only when you move.

The game has a very minimalistic design; you are a man made of black crystal and your enemies are red. Important objects such as bottles, bats and guns are coloured a metallic blue, so they stand out from the white and grey background.

Picking up the weapons of fallen enemies, you shoot, smash and slice your way through an army of red crystals. Dropped in random locations, you must shoot all your enemies to proceed to the next level. Of course, there are other ways to kill your enemies; using your fists, throwing objects – even a single bullet is enough to kill them.

Superhot has the same mechanics as traditional first-person-shooter games. The hook of the game is that unless you move, time will move extremely slowly; bullets fly and opponents move in slow motion – which make Superhot seem like a “puzzle first-person-shooter”. With the game moving at a gentle pace, you will have enough time to assess the situation and plan your next move. The concept of being able to manipulate time in this innovative game is what makes it so fun to play.

Fallout: New Vegas, rebuilding a broken world [Review]

Sometimes you will be armed with guns, bottles, Japanese swords, shotguns, and other times, with nothing but your bare hands. The red combatants may also be armed with these weapons so beating them can prove difficult. Weapons you pick up have limited ammunition, at times resulting in you having to find other objects to kill enemies. Taking one shot from the enemy will require you to restart the whole level. After finishing the story mode, the modes Endless (endlessly respawning enemies) and Challenge (play through the campaign’s core levels with new restrictions) will be available.

Ultimately, Superhot is about planning strategic moves and analysing your surroundings. The game boasts plenty of individuality, style and originality. But if you’re easily frustrated and have little patience, this may not be the game for you.

Still, this take on modern gaming has left players wanting more. If you haven’t played Superhot before, it’s definitely worth a try.
