I've never reviewed talk shows in this column before, but there is always room for an exception in life, especially when it comes to otaku and geek culture.

So I'm giving a big shout-out to The Wil Wheaton Project, a low-budget Syfy Channel programme that covers news about sci-fi, fantasy and horror.

Who is Wil Wheaton? I predict only two groups of otakus will know the answer. The first are fans of the sci-fi show Star Trek: The Next Generation, where Wheaton played Ensign Wesley Crusher, the boy genius son of the ship's doctor.

The other group would be fans of The Big Bang Theory, where he plays a version of himself who is a frenemy of Sheldon.

Wheaton's other claim to fame is as the lead character in the cult classic film Stand By Me, while he's also done voice acting for cartoons, video games and dubs of anime shows.

The show, hosted by Wheaton, is an amusing look at recent events in the entertainment industry. It focuses on geek interests, like the new X-Men movie, Game of Thrones and Salem.

Guest appearances have included Chris Hardwick of Nerdist Industries fame; and "geek goddess" Felicia Day.

For a good, geeky laugh be sure to check it out.
