They may have come third in the US X Factor, but hot new girl group Fifth Harmony (5H) isn't letting that stop their rise. Their debut album Reflection has made the top 10 in the US and Canada.
5H represent a new generation of girl power. On several songs, they sing about men who are either nuisances or creatures deserving of pity. These girls may flirt, but they don't need boyfriends to succeed.
In Bo$$, the girls mix fist-pumping beats with Pharrell-worthy production and an important message: girls can earn their own money, and they want respect. To hammer home their point, they name-drop two of the most influential females: Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
On Worth It, the girls use the horn-heavy chorus to repeatedly emphasise their self-worth, while on Suga Mama, they're affectionate, but refuse to fund their deadbeat boyfriends.
The songs celebrate what it means to be a girl while throwing down some irresistibly funky, dancefloor-filling beats.
