A capell-ieve how good Pentatonix's That's Christmas to Me is! [Review]
When no one was looking, a capella group Pentatonix have managed to go from a TV talent show novelty act to a true musical powerhouse with more YouTube subscribers than Beyonce and Lady Gaga.
That's Christmas to Me is the second holiday release from the group, and in just a few short weeks it's become the best selling holiday album in more than 50 years.
There are some true gems on this album, such as the cover of Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal. There's also a very cheery medley of Winter Wonderland / Don't Worry Be Happy that will have you singing and snapping along.
The group even manages make a listenable version of the horrendous Let It Go, one that won't have you making a Christmas wish for deafness.
Pentatonix do some pretty magical things with their voices, and their harmonics are outstanding. The problem is that almost all the solos on the album have that overly-strained singing that's usually found in cheesy musicals. Fans of Glee will be in heaven, but for the rest of us, the songs are (mostly) tolerable background music that we'll (thankfully) only hear once a year.
