Interpol's new album El Pintor is all killer, no filler [Review]
Interpol's fifth album, El Pintor, was probably the perfect album to listen to through Typhoon Kalmaegi. It's brimming with emotion, but there's no need to crank up the volume to get the full effect. A little background noise, like the rain, makes the album just that much better.
Interpol paints a very rich landscape on El Pintor. You know how on some albums, there's always one song that you want to skip over? Well, spoiler alert - that doesn't happen here.
The single, All the Rage Back Home, is already becoming a crowd favourite. It's catchy while also slightly brooding. Interpol don't normally release straight-up love songs, so this is probably the closest we'll ever get: "But, my sweet / You don't need minds / Come away / And just say you love me / Just say you love me alone."
This song sets the tone for the rest of the album - vague, emotive lyrics with solid instrumentals.
But there are upbeat songs as well; Anywhere shows the band can really amp it up. Great stuff.
