[Review] Manic Street Preachers still have lots to say in Futurology
The Manic Street Preachers have been on the scene for a long time, so it's easy to think they would take the easy route and bask in their success these days. The release of their 12th album, Futurology, proves that this is not the case.
The album still has the distinct Manic Street Preachers sound, and it's clear that the band is not in any way ready to let go of their Welsh roots or political opinions, as demonstrated in Let's Go to War and Misguided Missile.
The guitar solo and rebellious lyrics of Futurology sounds like classic British rock and roll, but that's where the similarities to previous albums end.
Futurology was recorded in Berlin and this influence is obvious in a lot of the tracks, giving the album the sound of a sci-fi soundtrack. The Euro feel continues with the electronica edge to tracks like Europa Geht Durch Mich.
Each track is quite distinct, and it's refreshing to see such thought and care has been put into every minute of the album. This was a bold move for the band, but it has definitely paid off.
