EXO-CBX’s second mini album has reached the chart summit, and for good reason. Blooming Days is a mix of catchy K-pop songs, detailing the story arc of a relationship within a week.

The aptly-titled Monday kicks off proceedings with downtempo, acapella R’n’B vocals as the lyrics detail the struggles of Monday mornings. The song becomes dream-like in harmonies that feel reminiscent of Usher’s earliest material.

Blooming Day has the same driving dance nature as Katy Perry’s Swish Swish, while Sweet Dreams details a sleepless night. The wiry synth chords and power-pop drumming make this the most summery-sounding track, the highlight of the mini-album.

Vroom Vroom and Playdate are far more carefree, jumping from a party song, to a lounge pop summer jam, to signify a Friday and Saturday, before Lazy closes the album with a dreamy chill-out vibe.

Blooming Days is an interesting concept that EXO-CBX have executed well.

The catchy hooks and diary-like accounts show how this EXO sub-group have come into full bloom.
