Are you looking forward to A Pentatonix Christmas? [Review]
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – especially when you listen to this festive album from Pentatonix. Yes, the season to be jolly starts here, and there’s no better way to start it.
Pentatonix have proven with their album A Pentatonix Christmas that they can and have taken Christmas songs to a whole new level.
The album takes classic Christmas hymns like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and O Come, All Ye Faithful and remixes them until they’ve been imbued with typical Pentatonix flair, adding not only funky harmonies and a strong bass line, but beat-boxing to the seasonal songs. Avi’s strong bass line in God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen in particular is truly amazing to hear.
Hallelujah has been getting a lot of attention, as it’s being heavily promoted on YouTube and – at the time of writing – has over 30 million views. The song has a very moving feel to it, as Pentatonix pour their emotions into every line, with each member bringing their own distinctive personality into the verses and chorus.
The album doesn’t just have pre-existing folk and pop Christmas songs like Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays though, it also has two original tracks from the group; Good to be Bad and The Christmas Sing-Along. In the latter, Scott belts out that “you’ve got the voice to sing; shout it out and make it ring” for the holidays.
Other significant songs on A Pentatonix Christmas include Coldest Winter, with Mitch and Kirstin paired perfectly on the vocals, and Good to be Bad, where Kevin imitates a trumpet.
Christmas may be over a month away but there’s no better way to start getting into the festive mood than with this album.
