Kygo’s Cloud Nine gets a little repetitive [Review]
Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo released his 15-track debut, Cloud Nine, a year after his first hit Firestone. He came to fame by remixing songs by acts like Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.
Kygo worked here with a range of artists, from soul singer John Legend, to pop artist Foxes and rock band Kodaline.
The album’s Intro teases what the album has in store: the soft and whimsical tune slowly morphs into a song with chill beats and piano.
One of the highlights is Raging (feat. Kodaline). Despite its clichéd title, Kygo’s signature tropical vibe mixes well with the captivating voice of lead singer Steve Carrigan, and an organic guitar melody.
Closer For What It’s Worth features Australian folk duo Angus and Julia Stone. The piano-led song’s melancholic atmosphere is a fitting end, with Kygo’s electronic melody mixed with the siblings’ harmonious vocals.
Cloud Nine has a great, raw quality, successfully blending strong vocals and vibrant beats. But songs begin to get repetitive, with a lack of depth and passion in the lyrics.
