Australian pop punk band 5 Seconds of Summer's much anticipated sophomore album is here. Sounds Good Feels Good starts off strong with the Blink 182-style Money, which is sure to get the crowds screaming when the quartet yells: "Take my money!"
This is followed by She's Kinda Hot, a hit single that disappoints. Lead singer Luke Hemmings complains about his hot girlfriend, then weirdly changes to sing about being a social outcast, with some random Spanish thrown in. It's got a nice tune and a catchy running bass riff, but that's it.
Sung to the tune of Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf, Hey Everybody is one of the strongest tracks on the album, full of banging beats that ooze the band's positive vibe.
Guitarist Michael Clifford shows his vulnerable side in Jet Black Heart as he sings about struggling with inner demons that threaten his relationship.
But as the tracks play, it seems as if the band is running out of creative juice. The beats and lyrics repeat themselves through Invisible and the nostalgic San Francisco.
Sounds Good Feels Good is an apt name, but only for about four of the 17 songs on the album.
