A bad day for Disney's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day [Review]
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day follows 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould), who is having the most unfortunate day.
He wakes up with gum in his hair, then trips over the garden hose on his way to school - and that's just the beginning. The disasters just keep coming and Alexander is certain that it is the worst day anyone's ever had.
Alexander tells his cheery family about his disastrous day, but he doesn't get much sympathy from them. He starts to resent the fact that he's the only one who has bad days.
So the night before his birthday, Alexander wishes for his family to experience the bad luck he suffers every day.
The result is a comical catastrophe. Alexander's dad embarrasses himself at a job interview; his mum nearly loses her job because of a careless mistake; his sister wakes up with the flu on the day of the play she's starring in; even his baby brother isn't immune to the birthday wish.
The film fails on the comedy front, because most of the incidents are predictable - given the theme of the film, this is unavoidable. The plot lacks a clear climax - it's just a series of unfortunate events happening to one family member after another.
However, it works as a feel-good family movie with some touching moments.
