Guardians of the Galaxy is a space success [Review]
Laugh-out-loud funny and with a great cast, Guardians of the Galaxy is the ultimate summer blockbuster.
Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is human who's spent most of his life in space. He's been hunting a magical orb; so has Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), who wants the orb so he can wipe out an enemy. Peter is chased by assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and some of Ronan's minions, but it's the space police that catch him.
Quill finds himself locked up with a bunch of misfits: Gamora, genetically-modified raccoon Rocket, talking tree Groot and Drax the Destroyer. They have to bust out of prison to get the orb to a safety before Ronan gets it.
The script provides a laugh a minute, thanks to the wisecracks, retro music and great running gags. Everything about this, from the gadgets, glorious make-up and digitally created characters to a dazzling space pod chase and space battles, is just as cool as you'd hope a summer sci-fi action comedy to be.
Everything about this has been tailored for the fanboy and fangirl universe. The Western-style lovable-rogues-in-space-theme rips off of everything from Star Wars to Joss Whedon's Firefly, so it will be interesting to see how Marvel develops the series.
