The Boss Baby is a boss level movie of laughs and tears [Review]
Seven year old Tim (voiced by Miles Bakshi) has great parents who love him, play with him, encourage his imagination and fantasies and even sing him special songs. Into this loving household where Tim is an only child comes a new baby. The baby arrives, not as all babies do in a hospital, but in a taxi, wearing a suit. There is immediate chaos in the home as Mum and Dad get used to the new baby and Tim feels left out.
The Boss Baby is an animated comedy inspired by the picture book by Marla Frazee and features the voices of Alec Baldwin as Boss Baby, Steve Buscemi as the villainous Francis E. Francis, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow as Tim and Boss Baby’s unsuspecting parents. Tobey Maguire is the film’s narrator.
The story has a number of strands – the first and most relatable being the impact of a new sibling on the family dynamic and how it affects everyone in the family and how love for siblings and family is important and overcomes everything. The second is the effect of the baby on Tim and what he does to show the briefcase carrying Boss Baby for what he really is to his parents in an attempt to win their love back. The third is the one where Boss Baby and Tim have to work together to try to stop the plot that threatens the very existence of all babies in the world, now and forever.
Younger viewers might not get all of the strands as some of the concepts are quite adult and might be difficult to understand, but they will most definitely love the forays into Tim’s imagination where he has a lot of exciting adventures. Also there’s the chaos that ensues when Tim and Boss Baby try to stop the plot. I laughed at the jokes and was thrilled with the 3D effects. It’s a great story that will tug at your heartstrings and make you laugh as well.
