One Direction member Liam Payne has upset the LGBT community over an allegedly offensive tweet. 

His tweet, posted on Wednesday 19 August early afternoon and later deleted was claimed by Twitter user @gonerziam to have said: "this song is about finding the girl of your dreams which most of you can't relate to bc you're also girls."

Twitter users have attacked Payne's tweet for erasing the identity of those who were not sexually 'straight' or heterosexual, thereby offending the LGBT community. 

Payne has however responded to such accusations saying that he did not mean to offend anyone and was only referring to his female fans "in general".

Minutes later however, he tweeted an apology:
