Since the release of Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen has been taking the worldwide web by storm, and I got to sit down to talk to her for a bit!
The official video raked up more 715 million hits on YouTube, and that's the official video ONLY! There was the Justin Bieber version, the A&F models version, the MattyB version ... three years later, she's ready for her next step: the always tricky sophomore album.
The much anticipated I Really Like You song was recorded, and she was talking to her manager about what the treatment for this video should be. CRJ thought it's such a sweet song already, and doesn't want anymore over-the-top cuteness to make it too sweet-on-sweet. So she decided that she wants an unexpected male character to lip-sync to the lyrics. They came up with a whole list of actors they thought would be great for the part, and left it at that for the night.
One day over at a casual dinner with Tom Hanks, Scooter brought this idea, not to pitch it to him, but just because it's funny. Tom laughed and said, "Why don't you guys just ask me?" And the rest is history.
After finding out more about the behind-the-scene story of the video, while I still had a little bit of time with Carly, I thought I would brace myself and ask her the most embarrassing question ever: "Will you lip-sync with me?" To my surprise, she agreed with much joy, and said, "Sure! Let's do it!!"
Will this ever go viral at all? I don't wanna get my hopes up, but at least I got to feel like Tom Hanks for 11 seconds on YouTube.
