The last Japanese production to feature the monster, 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars, was far better than the American version. But people are still excited to see how the new US reboot will turn out when it's released later this year.
British director Gareth Edwards takes charge of the movie. He has experience in the genre. His debut film, Monsters, was somewhat similar to the Godzilla series. It followed a journalist who had to escort an American tourist to safety in Mexico in the wake of a massive alien invasion.
The new Godzilla movie began shooting in Canada in March. The cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston and Sally Hawkins.
A trailer was released this week on the official movie website. Even based on this short preview, the film looks promising. At least Godzilla himself looks more like the original Japanese version, rather than the computer-generated mess made in 1998. Fingers crossed this new American production doesn't drop the ball this time, too.
