Students and teachers from Korean International School (KIS) raised HK$13,282 for Operation Santa Claus (OSC) by organising a Santa Fun Day and a Christmas Concert earlier this month. Operation Santa Claus is co-organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK.
Santa Fun Day was held on December 11, with students donating HK$35 to have breakfast with Father Christmas. For a further HK$35, they could take a picture with Santa. In the afternoon, primary pupils took part in games organised by secondary students. Each participant had to buy coupons worth at least HK$20. A total of HK$11,451 was raised on the day.
Maisie Chan, a teacher in charge of organising OSC events, said parents were very generous. 'Each coupon book cost HK$20 and many parents purchased more than one for their children when they found out it was for charity.'
Chan said the school had supported the charity campaign since 2002 and would continue to do so. 'We encourage students to visit the OSC website to find out more about the charity event. We want to remind students how fortunate they are and that they should help the less fortunate.'
The school's annual Christmas concert on December 17 raised HK$1,831.
Teacher Warren Baumberg said: 'The concert seeks to showcase the different talent within our school. It was a full house. Funds were collected from guests and parents.'
