Are you sweating it out this summer under the hot sun? Or maybe you are slaving away at your desk tackling never-ending piles of summer homework?

Well, fear not! Here are three of the smoothest, er, smoothie drinks that can instantly boost your energy levels and keep a nice grin on your face.

All of these recipes are both nutritious and easy to make - an absolutely foolproof plan that all children can manage on their own without much supervision - except perhaps when cutting up the fruits, or handling sharp objects.

Equipment needed

- blender/mixer (hand-held mixers are also acceptable)
- knife
- cup

Reminder

Remember to wash all fruit carefully before use

Banana Paradise

A rich and creamy treat, this heaven-sent summer shake will leave a lovely sweet aftertaste - and maybe even a foamy moustache as an extra bonus! The shake is filling and satisfying, and an instant happiness boost.

Ingredients (Fills 1 cup)

- 1 ripe banana, sliced into bite size pieces
- 1 cup regular vanilla ice-cream (including air gaps)
- 1/2 cup milk
- ice cubes (optional)

Method

1. Put bananas, ice-cream and milk into the blender

2. Blend for one minute until a smooth silky texture is formed

3. Add two or three ice cubes if not cool enough. Then it's ready to serve.

Note All single fruit-smoothies can be made using this method, with only a simple change regarding the fruit used and the flavour of ice cream.

The flavour you pick should be either the same flavour as the fruit, or a similar flavour that complements the fruit nicely.

Berry Boost

A simple, light drink filled with occasional crunchy surprises from the seeds of berries, displaying splashes of vibrant colours reflective of the cheerful nature of summer. An instant energy boost!

Ingredients (Fills 1 cup)

- 1/2 cup strawberries (cut into eighths)
- 1/2 cup raspberries
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk
- Honey, to taste (Recommended: 11/2 teaspoons)

Method

1. Put all the berries, yogurt and milk into the blender

2. Blend for one minute to ensure berries are crushed

3. Add honey and blend well

4. Add two or three ice cubes if not cool enough.

Now it's ready to serve.

Coconut & Lime Delight

Providing an Asian twist to an otherwise Western idea, this summer drink is interesting and creative, making use of its relatively unusual milkshake ingredients to achieve a stunning effect.

It is refreshing and instantly thirst-quenching!

Ingredients(Fills 1 cup)

- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1/3 cup milk
- Juice of 1/2 a lime
- 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Method

1. Put all the milk, vanilla ice cream and lime juice into the blender.

2. Blend for one minute until well mixed.

3. Add two or three ice cubes if not cool enough.

And there you are! The smoothie is ready to serve.
