This year, I am no longer an onlooker. I am one of them, doing silly things all over the city. I have since become more sympathetic towards these people.
Some have criticised these camps, saying they involve indecent activities or performing annoying acts in public. These criticisms are sound, but they miss the point.
What is the origin of these "indecent" activities and annoying acts? They all have to do with the spirit of orientation camps: "Try it, and go for it."
Do what you have not done before, and do it as hard as you can. Therefore, shout out the slogans as loudly as you can, play the stupid games as if you are a three-year-old, and do the crazy things as crazily as possible.
Then you will feel fulfilled, because you have tried it and gone for it, and you will not regret that you did not try.
University is a time to make new friends, experience new things, find out who you are. If you stay in your dorm room all the time, and continue life as if you were still at secondary school, you will miss out on developing your personality.
At the same time, we need a plan. We can't play the whole time when we have so much new work. If we abandon all studying in favour of new clubs, we will regret it come exam time.
Be open to new ideas, try new things. It's 2013/2014, a new school year, a new start. Above all, regret no more.
