Policeman John Cale (Tatum) and his daughter Emily are on a tour of the White House. But sudden explosions turn their visit into chaos, leaving many people injured and dead. The White House is overtaken by a heavily armed terrorist group, and John is separated from his daughter.
The desperate father fights his way out of the calamity. But in his search for his daughter, he uncovers an even more sinister plot that no one could have seen coming.
The president-in-peril adventure is intriguing, and director Roland Emmerich successfully concocts a mind-blowing plot with secret underground passages and scheming politicians.
The movie has stunning visual and sound effects, and action scenes between John and the villains are intense.
The downside is that some of the plot just doesn't make sense. For instance, how would it be possible to blow up half the world using only the president's handprint and a secret code?
Tatum is convincing - or at least his physique is. But Jamie Foxx as the president fails to display the charisma a leader needs.
