Every rapper has a story to tell, and so does Macklemore. His story is about a traumatised white kid from the American Northwest who found refuge in music and became successful.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' debut album, The Heist, has many hits to please, including Thrift Shop, Same Love and Can't Hold Us. With Macklemore in charge of the rapping and Ryan Lewis on the production panel, the popular duo manage to bring some fresh rap to the table.

Macklemore, an indie-turned-mainstream rapper, is a specialist in writing lyrics that flow. Lewis creates beats that blend well with Macklemore's lyrics.

The duo's rap is refreshing because they never shy away from challenging social ideologies and taking on hotly debated issues. Another feature is that the duo make not only music that relies on pounding beats and a buzzing bass, but also make upbeat rap with soothing melodies.

Macklemore and Lewis surely have new ideas and styles to offer in hip hop. The Heist reflects that.
