The Snowman and the Snowdog (film/game)

The Snowman and the Snowdog (film/game)

The timeless tale The Snowman, written and illustrated by English author Raymond Briggs, celebrates the 30th anniversary of its animated film this Christmas.

The original book was first published in 1978 and was made into an animated short in 1982, with music composed by Howard Blake. Since its original television broadcast on Britain's Channel 4, it has become an endearing part of Christmas the world over.

Now after 30 years, an animated sequel called The Snowman and the Snowdog is set to be aired on Christmas Eve at 8pm (GMT) on Channel 4. The new show will be just like the original - completely hand-drawn in a simple, illustrative style. But it picks up a few years after the original's ending.

Sadly there's no release date for those of us not able to watch the premiere in Blighty, but you can take solace in the free 3D Android game for smartphones and tablets.

Fly with the magical Snowman and his canine friend around England and the North Pole, collecting snowflakes and icons.

Players can also collect jigsaw pieces, which when completed will show an image from the new show.

The Snowman 30th anniversary edition DVD is also now available, so until the Snowman and Snowdog sweep into Hong Kong, fans have something to keep them busy until the film is released here.
